Phoebe Grizelda[1] Howell[2] is a 9-year-old girl who discovered her friend, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, by hitting her with a rock.

As Phoebe once mentioned, her name means "bright and pure," which is actually true. It most likely resembles her personality, as Phoebe is usually a happy and cheery girl. Despite the name being so common, it has often been mispronounced as "Fobe," instead of "Fee-bee," which later became a meme.

Appearance[]

Phoebe is dark-haired with tan skin and large black eyes. It is likely she is east asian, as her mom has some of these traits too. She has freckles, which Marigold calls "dots" or "speckles". Phoebe's eyebrows are usually hidden in her bangs. She has wider hips than Max and Dakota and is a bit shorter than both of them. She often wears her hair in braids or a ponytail, or sometimes just down.

Dana Simpson has stated in her first book that "unlike most cartoon characters, Phoebe wears different outfits on different days". Despite this, and the fact that the series implies aging, Phoebe never seems to grow up.

Personality[]

Phoebe is very energetic and creative, often impatient. She is often labeled as a nerd, which she embraces.

Friends[]

Marigold Heavenly Nostrils[]

Marigold Heavenly Nostrils is one of Phoebe's best friends. They became friends when Phoebe saved Marigold from staring at her reflection for too long by hitting her with a rock (accidentally). In return, Marigold granted Phoebe a wish, and she asked for Marigold to be her friend. Phoebe was about to try using her for fame, she finally stopped this and became her true friend. This shows that she cares about friendship instead of her own desires. For Christmas once, Phoebe gave Marigold the present of being unlocked from the friendship wish, but Marigold still wanted to be friends. On Phoebe's friendship chart, Marigold is her best friend.

Max[]

Max is another of Phoebe's friends. They met at school as spelling partners. Phoebe initially had a crush on him, but it is unknown if this still stands. On Phoebe's friendship chart, Max is her "friend who's a boy but NOT my boyfriend."

Sue[]

Sue is another one of Phoebe's friends. They met at a summer camp called Camp Wolfgang, and even though Phoebe was initially scared of her, they bonded quickly. On Phoebe's friendship chart, Sue is her long-distance friend.

Dakota[]

Dakota is Phoebe's frenemy, as listed on Phoebe's chart. Dakota and Phoebe were initially enemies, but after the incident where Dakota lost her hair, they became frenemies. Dakota often bullies Phoebe.

Sam[]

It is unsure if Sam is technically Phoebe's friend, as Phoebe wants to be her friend but Sam never notices, but on Phoebe's friendship chart, Sam is her unattainable friend. It is also possible that Phoebe has a crush on Sam.

Trivia[]

  • She is embarrassed by her middle name. One time, she mentioned that she likes middle names that are worse than "Grizelda", and lied that her middle name was "Danger."
  • Phoebe likes to play with Pastel Unicorns. In the first book, she was playing Pastel Unicorns with a real unicorn, Marigold. So, it was not the first time she played with them, and she's been playing with them before she met Marigold.
  • She enjoys the TV shows "Confetti Canyon", and "Pastel Unicorns". She often got made fun of by kids at school for liking Pastel Unicorns, although, quite ironically, Phoebe and Dakota were seen watching Confetti Canyon.
  • Phoebe played Lisa Ladybug in "Lisa Ladybug and The Lost Lollipop", a school play.
  • All of Phoebe's friends are a magical creature or are/were friends with a magical creature, the only exception being Sam. Marigold is a unicorn, Dakota is friends with the goblins, Sue is friends with Ringo the lake monster, and Max is friends with Voltina, a lightning dragon, who is also a friend of Phoebe's.
  • Phoebe plays piano but often forgets to practice.
  • Marigold gave Phoebe an honorary unicorn name, Speckleface Spiderhooves. She initially objected to this name, when hearing that Marigold considered "Hornless Ape Child," Phoebe decided in comparison it wasn't so bad after all.
